Journalists were urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health by Dr.P.Soundararajan, professor and head of Nephrology & Kidney Transplantion, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Porur, Chennai.
Dr.Soundararajan who led a team of doctors at a medical camp for journalists and their family members stressed the importance of a healthy living to avoid stress related diseases.
He said that he was alarmed at the findings during the camp as many journalists suffered from different problems. Assuring all help for future treatment he urged the journalists to follow medical advice seriously.
The soft spoken doctor became very popular with the journalists who wanted him to conduct such camps regularly.
Scan facility: For the first time in the history of the Chennai Press Club scanning facility was provided for its members during a medical camp. Dr.Tamizhisai Soundararajan, a senior gynaecologist was instrumental in providing the facility for the camp.
The cheerful doctor who is also a senior State BJP functionary conducts several camps throughout the State.
Young Dr.Karthik Gunasekaran, surgeon and urogynecologist was keen that journalists have clean habits. Creating an awareness and regular checks were essential for a long and healthy life, he adviced journalits.
Dr.Karthi’s wife Dr.Manu Lakshmi also gave expert advice for the members. She personally counseled mothers and also gave tips on how to lead a healthy and stress free life.
Chest physician, Dr.Prabakar, was crowded with queries on chest related problems. He was seen patiently advising the patients on ways to prevent chest related problems.

The Chennai Press club general secretary Mr.S.Shivakumar thanked the doctors who examined and counseled the journalists and their family members. He said that it was well known that journalism was a stressful occupation and periodic preventive medical advice prevented health complications arising over time.
With about 100 journalists participating in the camp it was also fun time for many children. Many members were overwhelmed at the facilities during the camp and congratulated the Chennai Press Club office bearers for organizing the medical camp. Senior journalist Mr.Nanda Kumar complimented Mr.Bharathi Tamilan, joint secretary who had personally taken steps for organizing the camp. Other committee members including Mr.Geethapriyan, Mr.Arivanandam, Mr.Azatullah, Mr.Rajnikanth, vice president Mr.Govindarajan ensured the camp was a huge success.
Breakfast and snacks was provided for all those who attended the camp. The doctors and paramedical staff were felicitated by the Chennai Press Club Office bearers. Mr.Venkatesh who handles public relations for several leading doctors in Chennai and was instrumental in organizing the camp was also felicitated.
It was also decided to hold such medical camps in future by the committee members.
